I've been looking for this advert. Good old fashioned negative advertising.
The SNP attacked this ad on the grounds one of the 'ordinary people' talking about the impact the SNP could have on their lives used to be a senior Labour official. While I'm no fan of the Labour Party this argument doesn't hold much water. Former Labour officials will pay, just like everyone else, if the SNP is elected and the Labour party right about the consequences.
In the end, the families are there to illustrate how ordinary families will be affected. Even if they were all actors they could still convey that message. The advert is honest if it gives an accurate portrayal of how ordinary people's lives would be changed by an SNP victory. Whether those in front of the camera are actually 'ordinary' is unimportant.

By your own definition this is NOT honest. A ridiculously round figure without any economic justification. This is just disgusting scaremongering by Labour-which even they cannot possibly believe.
By U.S. standards this ad is tame.
I'm used to ominous overtures and faces of politicians turning dark and grim as incendiary phrases flash across the screen to show just how truly evil and unacceptable a politician or party is.
Usually then the music turns light an airy, and the politician/group who funded the ad comes onscreen in a beam of light, walking on water and spreading joy and flowers in their path... or so it seems.
Of course, I have to say that I know nothing about the SNP or Labour parties or even this particular issue.
I'm just saying.
Yes, I'm surprised that you appear to be reinforcing the £5000 figure on behalf of Labour without any corroborating evidence.

I'm not endorsing the message of the Labour ad.
My basic take is that the SNP should stop mucking around and actually rebut Labour. JPJ2 may be right but when they go on about the advert rather than responding to its message the SNP are desperately unimpressive.
Fair enough, but looking at the Scotsman messageboards indicates that the SNP counter-attack has worked quite well.
