French person dislikes Britain

Apparently another book has been released in France about how awful we Britons are. I wouldn't see this as newsworthy but for what it reveals about the author. I found this particular excerpt telling although the Guardian does not appear to have spotted the irony:

"This makes for boring conversation. People talk only about what they know about"

Indeed. Our lack of 'intellectuals' without any specialist knowledge does mean we have fewer conversations on issues about which we are clueless. The French are fond of pronouncing on all sorts of matters of which they have no knowledge at all; that's the only way economics can still be discussed within the, increasingly, poor old Fifth Republic.
